Stand Up To Cancer Charity Walk

Over the weekend, the lovely Stacy Curley from our Customer Service Team, along with her good friend Claire, helped organise and take part in a Stand Up To Cancer Charity ‘Glow in the Dark’ walk covering 11k around Stotfold, Norton and Letchworth.

Completed in the rain and dark, along with 10 other friends, the group raised over £1500!

Stacey commented, “I’m really happy to contribute to such a great cause, I feel that we have all been affected by cancer along our individual journeys and feel we should all do what we can to secure a better, healthier future especially after becoming a parent.”

Well done Stace 🙂

Capital Fireplaces Premises Update

Capital Premises

The Capital Fireplaces Warehouse team has been incredibly busy over the last month working on the renovation of the bottom warehouse in Henlow, and we’re pleased to say that we’re part way through first stage of Capital Fireplaces premises update. Over the last few weeks, the bottom warehouse has been completely transformed with new lights, a fresh lick of paint and a super smooth new floor.

We’re focused on investing for the future and we now have plans in place to completely refurbish both the Henlow and Meppershall premises. The work is only really getting underway so be sure to watch this space for future updates.

And just a gentle reminder for our regular customers:

You will be asked to wipe your feet before entering 🙂

How to decorate a fireplace

Over the last few years, the team at Capital Fireplaces has spent hours upon hours decorating fireplaces for our studio photography shoots, and we’ve created hundreds of distinctive looks for different purposes. For us, the fireplace is the focal point in a room, and it should always be decorated carefully. So, to help you choose a look that works for your fireplace, we’ve explored a few of our favourite tactical designs in more detail.

Picture Pairing

By keeping your mantel free of clutter, and placing two photographs or pieces of art side-by-side, you can give your fireplace a well-balanced appearance. To make this look work, we recommend you showcase two pieces of artwork which are very similar in style, and place them in identical frames. You should also try to positon the pictures on a plain painted wall rather than using patterned wallpaper, otherwise it can lead your eyes away from the most important feature in the room; the fireplace.

This is one for those who love simplistic designs and futuristic furniture. Sometimes the meekest fireplaces can be the most dramatic, and if you love a clean and contemporary home, you may only need two key components; the wall and the fire. That look has been created here with our Vision Trimline fire, but you’ll notice progressive furniture has been included to match the trimless fire, and it’s the perfect look for a modern city apartment.

Abstract Artwork

Whether your fireplace sits in a modern or traditional room, adding abstract art to your walls can give your fireplace more impact, but choosing the right piece of art can be quite tricky. An abstract photograph or painting should always reflect its surroundings by harmonising with the colours of the space you’re designing. In our example, you’ll notice we’ve matched the warm colours of the painting with bright oranges and reds in the surrounding furniture, meaning the natural white stone really cuts through.

Blending Rich with the Rustic

Combining rustic artwork with a contemporary fireplace allows the details of the fireplace to come to the fore. You’ll notice that the curves from the vase and the lamp harmonise with the chiselled lines from the natural stone mantel, whilst the contrasting artwork adds a touch of industrial charm.

If you’re looking to create a completely contemporary fireplace, the only way you can really achieve this is by combining the latest innovative fire with ultramodern appliances. In the photo below, the state of the art surround sound speakers and wall mounted flat screen TV pair perfectly with our Vision Trimline fire. This grey colour scheme is one of the most popular looks right now, and it ensures the flames of the fire really come to life.

Rustic and Rural Décor

A rustic exposed brick surround is the perfect match for a traditional stove, and every component should be considered carefully if you’re looking to create a fireplace that’s fit for the countryside. The classic tiles, oak clock, axed logs and cast iron tool set match the era of the aged brick surround, and the traditional cast iron wood burning stove adds some much needed warmth to this picture perfect inglenook.

Intricately Detailed

Inspired by the Edwardian period, our Langley cast iron combination fireplace is exquisitely moulded and typically ornate in style, but we’ve taken the look further with floral red and white tiles that are just as elaborate on the eye. When sat beneath a beautifully sculpted Edwardian mirror with a tulip shaped lamp, the sophisticated fireplace is complete, and it’s a look that’ll never go out of style.

The look you go for will obviously depend on your home’s individual style, but these are just a few ideas to think about when you’re planning the look of your fireplace. We supply an extensive range of fireplaces, fires and stoves, and we have designs fit for every home.

Capital Fireplaces is sponsoring a new puppy!

guidedogpuppy-felixMeet Felix, an energetic Labrador puppy we’ve recently sponsored for Guide Dogs.

At just six weeks old, he’s bursting with energy and he loves nothing more than chasing the other pups around. The team at Capital Fireplaces have made a donation to help get him off to the best possible start, and rather than sending out Christmas cards, we’ll be keeping our blog updated with his progress over the next two years.

Felix will now look to follow in the footsteps of our previous guide dog Robin, who completed his two year training programme last month. Robin (pictured below) has helped his owner Matthew gain a great deal of confidence within such a short space of time, and they now both enjoy a very busy lifestyle together.

With Robin by his side, Matthew’s able to keep fit by visiting lots of parks, and they often return home “caked in mud”. It’s amazing to see how much difference a guide dog can make to a visually impaired individual, and Capital Fireplaces is proud to continue offering our support.
